Oh so many issues this year! but then again... i don't believe the Philippines ever had a dull year in its rich history... I'd say the rising oil prices, specifically gasoline, and the flight of NOT A FEW good men and women from the country in search of greener pastures abroad. As regards the first, although the government can't really do anything about it, i think it should (with some expert help of course)at least seek a way to cushion the ill-effects of rising gasoline prices. I always get to talk to cab drivers, and a majority of them (specially those who drive for big-name operators)don't get to bring home enough dough to send their kids to school or even feed them despite the capability of grossing P3K per day (approx. P1.2K go to the operator's pocket while a staggering P1.8K go to gas expense). When gas reaches P100/liter (God forbid...please), we may not find cabs or even jeeps, buses and trikes on our streets anymore. Poor commuters like me! As regards the second... our beloved country is simply losing competent laborforce... (the very best go to foster father uncle Sam; the next best you find in call centers)...which of course will have long-term ill-effects to our already confounded economy... I can't blame them for leaving though... I just hope and pray they (WE!) would be a little more patient, a little more hardworking, a little more willing to sacrifice and a little more.. well.. optimistic... because a little more may someday translate to a whole lot.
i envy BJ, he's got a lot of taxicab fare money! =)(poor commuter %$#@!!, gimme a break!...just kidding!)
but, yeah, we live in such interesting times...
anyhow, i think that will we Filipinos will "move forward."
...too even bigger badder spicier controversies! it never really ends!
Ergo, we should just carry on, enjoy the crazy ride! Bear it and grin it!
Or we can answer the call of excellence and conscience deep within us, and well, the possibilities are endless!
What i'm concerned about is how our justice system seems to have been supplanted by "alternative" methods of exposing the truth, i.e. Senate inquiries purportedly conducted "in aid of legislation(???)" or trial by media or the new "people's court." Do people really have no trust in the justice system? What good can these alternatives give us when no concrete action is taken afterwards? I believe the truth should come out, but i'm just worried about the general shift in people's mindsets.
But then again, with the frustration brought about by recent events which seem to say that justice cannot be gained through the legal process, i suppose it can't be helped. Sometimes, events like these make a person want to walk out of class and go join a rally...
well...actually, i have nothing to say...
hee hee...
no really... if anything the issue nearest and dearest to my heart is the continuing depletion of funding for education in this country. this year is about to end, and next year will see yet another budget cut.
state universities are doing their best, but really, no one should complain about how the facilities suck and how the teachers suck and how, frankly, the quality of the students they have sucks.
cause if everyone knew just how little they have to work with, everyone would shut up.
now i would like to say a lot more than this but that would be digressing and i do so want to please mr delos santos and remain in his good graces.
